Adult Learn To Ski Program - Session 1

Session 1

Please join us for our discounted learn to ski program for adult first time skiers.

It’s a great time to learn how to ski and have the most fun ever! We have world famous snow conditions, a beautiful mountain setting and a professionally certified ski school staff with the desire to share their skiing expertise with you.

 The all-inclusive program @ $485 includes:

  • Four 2-Hour Lessons from 1:30 – 3:30 on Friday Afternoons
  • Four Days of Rental Skis, Boots and Poles
  • Beginner Area Lift Ticket

Over the progression of four lessons you will learn to glide, turn and control speed on easier green ski slopes. These skills will allow you to explore and enjoy the beautiful Albion Basin at Alta. If you really want to experience the amazing sensations of alpine skiing, then a series of four lessons is the right way to get started.

Ladies Day

5-Weeks | Thursdays | 9:30– 12:30

This year, you can do more than "just keep up." Let our supportive staff of certified instructors  teach or revisit the fundamentals of women's techniques, tactics and equipment.

Alta Ladies Day is a 5 week program designed for women, advanced intermediate through expert skiers, who want to step beyond their present limitations and discover their hidden potential. Each Thursday will be an important building block to help build skills and experience, with the goal of allowing you to ski your desired terrain confidently.

We are committed to helping women reach their full potential in an atmosphere that is fun, uplifting and motivating.

Times: 3 hour mornings, 9:30 am - 12:30 pm

Dates: Thursdays, January 11th - February 8th, 2024

Mountain Masters

Becoming a truly elite skier means performing your best no matter the terrain or snow type. Mountain Masters will help you understand why certain skiing stands out from the rest and show you how to achieve it.

The coaching staff is experienced and passionate! They are equipped with contemporary ski technique, coaching methods and technological tools that aid your pursuit of lofty ski improvement goals. All coaches are Level 3 certified PSIA ski pros. This program is designed for advanced and expert skiers eager to maximize their success and enjoyment in Alta's legendary mountain environment.

  • The “advanced” group is for skiers who confidently ski on Alta's groomed black terrain with little exposure or success in skiing off the groomed in natural snow conditions.
  • The “advanced-expert” group is for skiers who have experience and success in off-trail skiing and want coaching to better navigate Alta’s access routes and to ski smoother and more consistently in challenging terrain and conditions.
  • The “expert-plus” group is for experienced Alta skiers who are comfortable negotiating Alta’s many traverses at expert speeds regardless of weather conditions. These skiers have experience and success skiing off the groomed on steep terrain and want coaching to ski more athletically with seamless turn connections in all snow conditions and terrain.

As an experienced skier, you've got the skills necessary to ski most runs comfortably and have fun, but not in all conditions or situations. Maybe, it has been a while since anyone helped you with your skiing or you have come this far without coaching.

Achieving a higher level of performance can transform your relationship with skiing and enlarge your playground! Start that process with us and see what's possible. Certified Alf Engen Ski School instructors educate you about good skiing and engage you in a process that improves both your understanding and ability. Expect to discover and practice skills that lead to smooth, confident and controlled skiing.

In the process, you will become part of a skiing community dedicated to making the most of the Alta experience. Junior Explorers (JRX) is a recreational skiing program for children ages 6–8 years old. JRX encourages making new skiing friends while developing skiing skills on easier terrain. The skiing emphasis is on balancing movements, parallel turning, relaxed gliding and skiing with a confident attitude. More difficult terrain is used very sparingly in the lesson plan. The minimum skill level to enter JRX is to confidently control speed with wedge turns on green trails and to be able to ride lifts without an adult.

Alta Explorers (AEX) is an eight-week recreational ski program on Saturday afternoons for novice skiers age 9–13. Participants will practice fundamental skiing skills and progress towards parallel turning and speed control on more difficult blue trails.

The minimum skill level to participate is confidently controlling speed with wedge turns on green trails. Three or four two-hour lessons and a few hours of independent practice would be the norm for this age group to acquire the minimum skills.

Alta Race Team (ART)

Ages 8–11 | 15-Sessions

The Alta Race Team (ART) is an introductory racing program for skiers age 8–11, consisting of 11 training sessions and 4 races. The goal of ART is to introduce young skiers to the personal development and excitement associated with alpine ski racing. ART participants skiing will consist of approximately 50% gate training, 25% drills and 25% directed free skiing with a coach. Terrain skied will be approximately 25% green, 50% blue, and 25% black. The primary skills emphasized include gliding fast on gentle terrain and carving arcs on moderate terrain. More challenging terrain is used sparingly in the lesson plan to enhance skills, boost comfort zone and create excitement.

ART racers will participate in four local age group Youth Ski League Races (YSL).  YSL is the USSA introducctory race series for this age group.  Skiers may only have birth years 2012–2015. 

Racers compete in the U10 or U12 USSA category according to birth year. 

  • U10 = 2014 and 2015
  • U12 = 2012 and 2013

Parents are responsible for transporting their racer to the races.  A parent is required to remain at the race throughout the day.  Race entry fees are included in the ART Registration Fee.  Race day lift tickets and USSA Racers License are not included and are an additional cost.  A USSA-approved race-specific helmet is required.
